Hacks: How to Deal with Sticky Tape on Your Glass Window

Decorating and designing your glass windows with decals and other items can be a fun hobby, but dealing with the sticky tape is a whole different story. You most likely would have used double-sided tape or even a scotch tape to make the decals adhere to the window and now you are having a really difficult time removing it from the window glass.

Thankfully, there are things that you can do to make sure that your window will look good as new again, no matter what type of tape you’ve used on it. Below, we will discuss how you can remove that sticky tape from your window and when you should actually call a window company in Salt Lake City to have the window glass repaired for you instead.

Use the Tip of Your Fingers

The first thing you can try is to use the tip of your fingers or your nails to remove the tape from the glass. This might take a long time, but you have to be patient if you want to get rid of the tape. Make sure to lightly scrape the tape off so you would not scratch the glass. If you have a dull butter knife around, you can try using that, too, but you have to be careful not to scratch or cause a dent on your window.

Spray it with Glass Cleaner

If the tape still would not come off, then try soaking it with a glass cleaner first. Simply spray the area with good old glass cleaner and let it soak for at least 10 to 15 minutes before trying to scrape the tape off. The chemicals on the glass cleaner can help melt the tape off, so you can just wipe it off once the tape is soaked with the cleaner.

Use Soap and Vinegar

If there is still residue even after you have used glass cleaner on it, then use a mixture of soap and vinegar to get rid of it. Simply take a bowl and fill it with warm water. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap and 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar with the water. Stir and blend to make sure that everything will be properly mixed together.

Take a sponge and dip it into the mixture. Once that’s soaked, use it to scrub and clean the tape off the glass. Use circular motions, and then wipe it off with a clean towel. Spray it with glass cleaner once again and then wipe it off with a paper towel.

Take a Few Drops of Olive Oil

If you do not have olive oil on hand, then any type of oil would do. Make sure to spread a very thin layer of the oil on the area using a paper towel or a sponge. Try rubbing the area with the sponge using circular motions until most of the tape has come off. If there is still a little bit of sticky residue in there, then just repeat the process until it’s gone. Wash it off with a glass cleaner and wipe off with a clean piece of paper towel right after.

If you still cannot get rid of the residue even after trying these tips out, then try calling your trusted window repair company. They’d know how to get rid of the tape in no time.
